Blog photo: Even the rich guys get bugs....probably in their computers and often in their properties. I saw this recently in Newport Beach. This shot is taken from Balboa Island. The circus did not come to town. The pest control people tented what appeared to be all the buildings on a parcel. I've not seen anything like this before. A couple of days after I saw it the buildings were unveiled. This activity typically means bug activity is being exterminated.
Blog post: A colleague emailed this week and suggested I make a blog post about test holes in stucco. She had driven by a house on Thompson and the stucco was being removed, revealing the framing had rotted so much in some places that daylight could be seen where it shouldn't. This is often caused by water seeping into exterior walls due to improper drainage from the roof (often flat or a nearly flat roof).
Keeping with the blog title....I suggest that clients get pest and property inspections every 4-5 years. Why? We get used to the little problems and ignore them. We work around them. But underneath those small problems may be bigger issues.
It's easier to find solutions when the problem hasn't grown to huge proportions. It's easier to plan and pay for fixes and repairs when we aren't up against a wall that's falling down. It's easier to resolve the problem when it's not yet become a critical mess (mass!).
